The Tight End is one of the most important positions on the field. Teams that have big athletic Tight Ends usually have no problems moving the ball down the field. Tight Ends must be big enough to block Defensive Linemen and be agile enough to beat Linebackers, Safeties and sometimes Corners in pass coverage. Most of the time Tight Ends will be smaller in stature than the Defensive Linemen that they have to block so Tight Ends will have to be more technically sound and leverage conscious when entering into contact with these linemen. Tight Ends must be mentally strong and tough since he will be working the middle of the field. Tight Ends will be asked to make clutch catches knowing that the hits will be coming from the Linebackers. In the Huddle we will be talking about Tight End blocking, releases, routes and pro techniques that can be used at all levels of football.
