Box-Defensive end is primary run force

Spill- Technique used vs. a kick out or trap block using outside shoulder through the inside # of the blocker

Squeeze-Technique used vs. kick out or trap block using inside shoulder through the inside # of the blocker

Shoot- swift charge up field through your gap

Trail- technique vs. flow away to stop cut back

Butt technique- Explode off of the ball with head up and a flatback driving your helmet under the pads of the blocker.  Get your heels and hands under their shoulder pads locking your elbows keeping your feet firing, then shed blocker keeping leverage on the ball carrier and make the tackle.

Rip- Delivering a forceful blow with forearm and shoulder under & through  the blocker

Slant- getting to an inside position on your blocker keeping inside arm and shoulder free. 

Escape Techniques:

Arm lift-used vs. a down block.  Step to the down block & drive arm to that side underneath the shoulder pads to knock him off balance  

Leverage- Use blockers body to close rushing lanes at the point of attack

Slide- Stepping laterally with the lead foot on the outside of the blockers body, with feet parallel controlling the blocker then getting to the ball carrier

Slip- Going underneath a blocker once they have gained position by pushing, arm rip, or crossover to get by blocker

Throw- engage and grab blocker, push with fully extended arms then pull down and away sprinting to the point of attack

Wipe- close to the blocker pulling their outside arm and rip or swim across their face, also called a club and ripclick for Video

Pursuit:

After gaining control of the blocker, escape, chase and tackle.

a) Never relax on a play, make the tackle

b) Never follow your own jersey, chase at different levels, the closer you are to the ball carrier, the flatter your angle of pursuit.  The further away from the ball carrier the deeper your angle of pursuit.

c) Always keep leverage on the ball

d) Keep shoulders parallel to the line of scrimmage so you can quickly change direction.

Pass Rushing  Techniques:

A)  Butt-  Defensive lineman drives his face mask and hands just above the blockers numbers with hands thrusting  blockers shoulders.

B) Club- Blow to the blocker’s shoulder in attempt to knock blocker off balance.

C) Jerk- Grab and extend arms pulling blockers out of position.click for Video

D) Swim- Grab with lead arm pulling blocker down and bring backside arm over and down in a swimming motion over the blocker.

E) Speed rush- Out run the blocker with force.

F) Bull rush- Explode through the blocker with flat back driving your face mask  just above the blockers numbers. While you explode your hands into the blocker over powering them to the QB.click for Video

G) Counter- Start in one direction to get blocker off balance then explode in opposite direction. ( Move similar to the basketball cross over).

H) Hand slap- Explode out of stance slapping blockers hands down  then use any one of the pass rushing techniques.

Rush Lanes

Ends-  Most of your rush lanes will be outside of the tackle unless a special game is on or a specific blitz.

Tackles- Both tackles with a normal rush. One will have a possible double with the center & guard, the other will have to beat  the guard alone unless a special game or blitz is on
