Count Down To Signing Day
If your one of the highest recruited high school players in the nation, or you just have a few schools looking at you, you have to weigh all of your options when choosing a college to attend. Sometimes you don’t realize how important a decision is until after you’ve already made it. College coaches and scouts are going to tell you everything that you want to hear to get you to attend their University. Sometimes they will try to pressure you into committing before you take all of your visits. They’ll try anything to get you to make a rash decision. You have to do your homework on the Universities that are recruiting you.
Take notes about your top five schools
Football Notes 1. What kind of offense do they run? Are they a passive ball control offense or an aggressive score as many points as they can offense, and can you fit into this style of play? This question affects defensive players also! You don’t want to go to a school where the offense has problems scoring points. Because teams that score points put more pressure on the teams that they are playing.
2. What kind of defense do they run? Passive or aggressive? Will you be put into the greatest situations to be able to make a play? Check the team stats: Defenses 1st and 3rd down ratios, will tell you does this defense have other teams in second and long or second and short? Do they get off of the field on third downs? Where are they in the nation at getting turnovers?
3. Strength training programs. Do they lift with any free weights or do they use more of a nautilus weight training system. This is important because in my opinion, free weights strengthen the white muscle tissue better than that of the nautilus machines. You have to balance free weights while the nautilus machines hold your weight on a track and you just push.
Academic Notes
1. Do they have your major? If they do have your major how well does their University add up vs. the other Universities in your top five list.
2.What is their player graduation rate? Do they do everything possible to help you get your degree or are you there just to get them to a bowl game?
3. Will you be allowed to take a major that may interrupt meetings or practices? You won’t have to worry about this until you’re a junior or senior, but sometimes you wont be able to take a class during summer school or in the off season. How will the coaches feel about you possibly missing some practice time?
Just making you high school players aware of some things that you probably don’t think about. I will be posting more info in the coming weeks.
