Catching the ball requires an intense sense of focus, concentration, body awareness, and confidence. Show everyone else how it’s supposed to be done. The thought of dropping a pass should never come into your mind. Some people take for granted the simple mechanics of catching a pass.
The Receiver should extend his arms away from the body keeping the ball away from the chest. Chest catchers are a sign of Receivers with low confidence in their catching abilities. They should have their wrist slightly cocked on high passes forming a pocket for the ball with the thumb and index fingers. Form a mitt on low passes with the pinky fingers touching.
It is very important that a Receiver have soft hands but strong fingers. Meaning have the tenacity and passion to attack the ball, but the finesse and guile to make the strong secure catch without knocking it away.
